Motorola gives its Gallery app a fresh new design

Motorola is continuing its practice of updating its core apps through the Google Play Store today with the release of an overhauled Gallery app. The update, which is compatible with the Moto X, Moto G, Droid Ultra, Droid Mini, and Droid Maxx running Android 4.4, offers a new light-colored design and a few new ways to view your photos. In addition to the traditional "album" view that was available in the earlier version of the app, users can choose to view their pictures in a timeline view, which groups the images based on the date they were taken.

A new Camera Roll mode is also available and provides larger thumbnails and improved organization of the images captured by the phone's camera. The app itself feels similar to the Google+ Photos app that is also installed on the phones, but the Motorola Gallery doesn't provide any cloud backup or tie in to any cloud services. Users with compatible phones can download the update from the Google Play Store now.
