For those that thought the delirious mayhem of Fast & Furious 6 was the high point of the franchise, get ready: none other than Kurt Russell may be joining the next installment. Variety reports that the actor is currently in talks to join Fast & Furious 7, taking on a role that had originally been earmarked for Denzel Washington. Fast 7, as it will undoubtedly be called, represents a slight shift from the past few films. While writer Chris Morgan is scripting the movie, director James Wan is coming in to take over for Justin Lin, who's been helming the films since Tokyo Drift. Wan, of course, is a genre mastermind in his own right with films like Saw and The Conjuring, and his brand of visceral filmmaking should be a tremendous asset to the series.
As for Russell, he's proven himself to be the coolest of tough guys with roles like Snake Plissken and The Thing's R.J. MacReady. He also starred in Quentin Tarantino's Death Proof — showing some behind-the-wheel skills that should pay off when Fast 7 hits theaters.
